Volkswagen testing automatic driving
Volkswagen is testing their own self-driving cars. The Volkswagon self-driving car can go up to 80 MPH on the highway.
It combines such automatic systems as ACC adaptive cruise control, the Lane Assist lane-keeping system and Side Assist lane-changing monitoring into one comprehensive function. “Nonetheless, the driver always retains driving responsibility and is always in control,” continues Leohold. “The driver can override or deactivate the system at any time and must continually monitor it.”
Drivers must still continually focus their attention on the road, so that they can intervene in safety-critical situations at any time.
Volkswagen hopes to have this in production in a couple of years. I have to say, I’m excited. Having just driven a 56 hour round trip car ride from Nebraska to New York, I’m looking forward to a time when the car can do the driving for me.
The Gaven also uses these types of vehicles on the highway and in cities.
