About The Book
This website is designed to keep readers up to date on the events surround the novel, The Gaven, by Irene North. I will attempt to make frequent updates, however, I do have a life and a real job that must take priority to updating this site.
What is The Gaven about?
The Gaven is set in the not-too-distant future of 2047, in a United States that is pleasantly content with their dystopian, police state lifestyles. The Gaven follows Pelgrem Godschalk on his quest to escape the clutches of the American authorities, change the status quo, and find the answers to the secret data sticks entrusted to him.
Can I read The Gaven online?
Yes. I wrote The Gaven so that everyone could have the opportunity to read it. Currently, you can read the first chapter or the entire novel online. You can also download a pdf via bittorrent to take with you and read elsewhere.
I have dreamed of a hardcover, paperback, e-book, and audio book of The Gaven. There is also the exciting possibility of making the book available on a thumb drive (also known as a data stick in the novel) in many different e-book formats.
What else have you done?
The Gaven is my first novel, but I currently have a blog, Rantings of a New Yorker, which I have been writing since September, 2006.
What are you doing next?
I am currently expanding my journal entries from the Summer of 2005, which I spent in Tanzania. I am also working on another novel, tentatively titled Zombie Survivor. Regardless of the publication status of The Gaven, I will also attempt to publish these stories once they are finished.
Why Do You Write?
I write simply so that others can enjoy my stories. If it turns out that no one wants to publish my work, I will continue to release it for free so that others, no matter how few, can be entertained for a few hours. The Gaven is, for the reader, is an entertaining read, while providing information about how the world is around us is currently changing, and not for the better. My stories of Tanzania have informed others and made them laugh so much that I feel I can also express my experiences into the written word, thus spreading my joys to others. Zombie Survivor has been kicking around in my head for a few years and now is the time to get it on paper. If a single person enjoys my stories, then I am happy. If I actually get paid for it, well, that’s the icing on the cake.
